American troops withdraw from Iraqi cities

Today marks the official withdrawal of American troops from Iraq's cities and towns and the country declared it a national holiday to celebrate the event. While some people enjoyed the festivities, a car bomb exploded in a market in the city of Kirkuk, killing at least 24 people.
The insurgency was obviously making a point, but didn't they get what they wanted? Americans are finally starting to leave, so what is the excuse now?
It looks like violence will continue for a while. The question is for how long, to what extent and most importantly for what reason.
