Amnesty International boycotts Cohen's concert
Amnesty International announced that it will not be involved in any way with the Leonard Cohen concert in Tel Aviv and will not be party to any fund that benefits from the concert's proceeds. The decision follows an iinternational outcry over the human rights organization's reported involvement in the concert's fund and an international call for the singer to boycott apartheid Israel.
Even though Cohen had decided that the proceeds of his concert will be used to bbenefit both Israeli and Palestinian groups and that he tried to schedule a small concert in Ramallah, people still want him to respect the international call for an academic and cultural boycott of Israel. There is even a Facebook page that urges him to join the boycott.
It is unlikely that Cohen will cancel his concert, but at least Amnesty International took a strong and firm stance, setting an example for the rest of the world.
