Egyptian veiled woman stabbed to death
The recent brutal killing of an Egyptian woman in Germany - because she was veiled - has rallied up Egyptians, namely bloggers, to express their anger. But they were not only angry at the murder itself, but also at the lack of media coverage, especially western media.
This Egyptian woman had filed a defamation case against her killer after he called her a “terrorist” because she wears the hijab (Islamic veil). And he stabbed her 18 times to death in a German courtroom after the judges announced she won the case against him
Many of the bloggers agreed that if the situation were different, the event would have been much more covered and cared about. Some said that if it were a Muslim killing a Jew or a Christian or if a Westerner was killed in a court somewhere in the Middle East, the world would have reacted much more strongly.
It is events like that that make Arabs and Muslims feel like their lives are cheap, or at least cheaper than anyone else. Then the world wonders "where is all this anger coming from"???

And now the matter of the hijab, oh, the scary hijab. Why are people so scared of a veiled woman? Why do they always think she was forced to wear it? Why is it so demeaning for a woman to be covered up than naked for example? If a woman is doing either to objectify herself for men, then both are equally demeaning. But if she is choosing to do it because it empowers her, then both are ok. So please, leave it up to the woman.

Terrible hate crime..... I am not surprised by the reaction of the western media... However glad that bloggers are making noise .... lets communicate this news as much as possible...
As far as hijab vs naked - depends on where naked is :) how can naked empower in public without objectifying herself for men? Hijab on the other hand is fine, but only for the reasons you give...
