Israel's response to Obama's speech
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently gave a speech endorsing a two-state solution by creating a Palestinian state. However, the offer comes with a lot of conditions: demilitarizing Palestine, Jerusalem would be under the full control of Israel, and Palestinian refugees would not be allowed to come back to Israel. He also did not mention the issue of Jewish settlements, which Obama had specifically addressed in his speech in Cairo.
It is not surprising that the Palestinians will not accept these terms. Which nation on earth would accept not having a military force and the quintessential question of who will control Jerusalem remains unsolved.
So what was the point of Netanyahu’s speech? To show that Israel is taking a first step and to blame Palestinians for not accepting to start the peace process again. So we are basically back to square one.
