Palestine in the Guinness World Record

According to Electronic Intifada, over 100,000 Palestinians gathered Saturday in the city of Nablus in the West Bank to celebrate the making of a Guinness World Record: the largest plate of kanafeh, a very sweet pastry.
The event seemed to have grabbed the attention of many people, including the PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, who attended the ceremony to cut the ribbon and of course eat some Kanafeh.
While some did not appreciate the ceremony for political reasons, the main question is: was it appropriate to celebrate in such an extravagant way while other Palestinians in Gaza are still suffering, particularly in terms of having enough food to feed their families?
